Adelaide Convention Centre will soon be home to the world’s largest rotating seating drums, the centrepiece of the new East Building’s innovation and flexibility. The two 18 metre revolving drums, which each accommodate seating for 320 persons, can rotate 180 degrees in minutes, and will be used to quickly reconfigure conference and event space within the East Building Plenary.

The East Building will also feature a new auditorium with hinged seating stored in the roof space, which can be lowered to convert from exhibition space to lecture theatre style space. The building will be able to be subdivided and configured as pre-function space, ballroom, exhibition or plenary. Each meeting room will be serviced by individual lighting and audio systems.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert: “New technologies are the hallmark of the $400 million expansion which will set a new benchmark in convention centre design and functionality”.

The new East Building is on-track to open in 2017.
