The ISO 20121 standard provides a framework for planning and delivering events with measurable environmental and social outcomes, covering areas such as resource use, waste management, responsible sourcing and operational governance. The certification confirms that events hosted at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre meet internationally recognised sustainability criteria. According to General Manager John Burke, the achievement reflects the venue’s focus on aligning event delivery with global best practices and long-term sustainability goals.
Sustainability standards and venue capabilities
The certification builds on the Centre’s existing sustainability credentials, including the PM Hibiscus Award for Sustainable Convention and Exhibition Centres. Located in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre precinct, the venue offers 38,000 square metres of event space across multiple halls, auditoria and meeting rooms. It operates under several international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and tracks performance indicators such as emissions, water use and waste reduction.
