With Colin Hartley, Glasgow’s venue SEC (Scottish Event Campus) has appointed an events expert as Director of Operations. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Hartley brings a wealth of valuable knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Colin’s impressive track record includes being a key member of the team for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, where he was responsible for managing over 700 paid staff, 27 venues, 4000 volunteers, and a cultural program across three live sites. He also served as the Championships Director for the 2015 FIG World Gymnastics Championships, held at the OVO Hydro, and as the Head of Festival Operations for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Joining the SEC team at an opportune time, Colin will oversee the smooth execution of the SEC’s numerous exhibitions, conferences, and live entertainment shows. One such event is the 92nd Interpol General Assembly, scheduled to take place in November 2024. This prestigious gathering will bring together over 1000 senior delegates, including heads of police, ministers, senior government officials, and Interpol senior leadership from 195 member countries.

In addition, the SEC is preparing for a bustling live entertainment season, with renowned artists like Elton John, Shania Twain, and Deacon Blue scheduled to perform before the end of 2023.

Beyond event operations, Colin will play a crucial role in helping the SEC achieve its strategy of becoming net zero by 2030.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Colin Hartley stated, “I’ve been fortunate to work across some of the world’s biggest and most exciting events, and I’m delighted to be bringing that experience to the SEC. Glasgow and indeed Scotland have the capacity to rival even some of the world’s biggest cities when it comes to facilities and accessibility, and I’m looking forward to helping the SEC solidify its prominence on the global events stage.”

Peter Duthie, Chief Executive of the SEC, commended Colin’s extensive experience and welcomed him as a valuable addition to the senior team. Duthie emphasized the SEC’s goal of enhancing its reputation as a world-class venue for events at all levels, and believes that Colin’s expertise will contribute to achieving this objective.
